Applies to: Manager Basic; Manager Advanced
Manager Basic is the level of device management included with every ViewSonic Entity account, covering core functions like device enrollment, grouping, viewing device information, and standard remote commands. Manager Advanced is a separate, licensed add-on applied per device that unlocks additional and more automated management capabilities on top of Manager Basic.
Before you begin
Manager Basic requires only a ViewSonic Entity account and Manager access. Manager Advanced additionally requires purchasing Advanced licenses, which an Entity Owner or Manager admin then assigns to specific devices.
How licensing works
A few important points about how Manager Advanced licensing works:
Advanced licenses are associated with the entity's account, not with individual devices permanently — a license is applied to a device, but can later be moved to a different device.
Entities choose which specific devices receive an Advanced license, typically based on which devices need Advanced-only features.
Organizations need to purchase enough licenses to cover the devices where Advanced features are required.
What Advanced unlocks
Manager Advanced adds capabilities on top of Manager Basic's core device management. Confirmed Advanced-only capabilities include:
Remote Desktop, for remotely troubleshooting a device's screen.
Additional remote commands such as Settings Lock, Startup Mode, Standby Mode behavior, and ViewBoard Cast settings.
Automated management tools, including Jobs and Profiles, for scheduling and applying commands across devices automatically.
Expanded broadcast content types (for example, playlists, web pages, multimedia, and presentation files) — Standard and Urgent broadcast messages remain available on Manager Basic, but broadcasting these additional content types requires all target devices to have an Advanced license.
Additional notes
Some additional points that may be useful:
Device capability and license tier are separate concepts: a device must both support a feature and have an Advanced license assigned (where required) for that feature to be usable. Check the Manager device capability chart if a feature seems unavailable.
Advanced also increases some Basic limits, such as available cloud storage and the number of system restoration points, though exact current limits should be confirmed in the Manager console or with Support, since limits can change over time.
Need more help
If you are deciding whether to purchase Manager Advanced licenses, or need help assigning existing licenses to devices, contact ViewSonic Support or your ViewSonic representative with your organization name and the number of devices you want to license.
