Applies to: ViewSonic Manager (Manager Broadcast Basic)

A standard message is a text-only broadcast that appears as a banner at the top of device screens. By default, device users can dismiss it, but Manager admins can require it to stay on screen until they manually stop it. Standard messages are available to all enrolled devices, with or without a Manager Advanced license.

Before you begin

You need Manager admin access and one or more enrolled devices selected on the Devices page.

Send a standard message

To broadcast a standard message:

  1. Go to the Devices page and select one or more devices in the list.

  2. Click Send broadcast (or Broadcast, depending on your interface).

  3. Click the Standard Message tile.

  4. Type the message text in the Standard Message field. Use the preview window to check how it will appear on target devices, and try to keep the message under 1,024 characters.

  5. Select a broadcast duration: Continuous (displays until dismissed by a user or stopped by an admin) or Custom (auto-dismisses after a set duration).

  6. Optional: select Forbid device user from stopping broadcast to prevent users from dismissing the message manually. If this is left unchecked, users can stop, hide, or dismiss the broadcast even with a Continuous or Custom duration set.

  7. Click Send Broadcast to start the broadcast, or Save as template to save the configuration for reuse.

Stop a broadcast

To stop an active standard message broadcast:

  1. Go to the Devices page and select the devices where you want to stop broadcasting. Sort by the Status column to quickly find devices currently broadcasting.

  2. Click Stop Broadcasting on the device list toolbar and confirm.

Additional notes

Some additional points that may be useful:

  • If the message text is too long to fit the screen width, it auto-scrolls from left to right until fully displayed.

  • Standard messages do not support custom text formatting. Use the Text editor option within a Layout broadcast (Manager Advanced required) for formatted text.

  • Standard messages are available on any enrolled device, unlike media broadcasts (playlist, web page, multimedia, presentation, layout), which require a Manager Advanced license.

Need more help

If a standard message does not display, or a device does not respond to Stop Broadcasting, contact ViewSonic Support with the entity name and affected device serial numbers.
